An E-mail from Mike Krug

A true fishing testimonial from a HAPPY BarHopp'R client. Read about Mike and Cathy Krug's experience with Capt. Butch Rickey, one of the top native Florida fishing guides, backcountry fishing and flats fishing in the waters of Pine Island Sound around Sanibel Island, Captiva Island, Pine Island, and occassionally, Sarasota Bay.

Hey,

Thanks for the great time Butch. Cathy and I had a real great time! She enjoyed the sun, reading her book, and I enjoyed the good snook fishing you provided. The next day my right forearm was sore from the pressure of the fighting fish! Of course, I didn't tell Cathy.

We went back out Wednesday for snook. Figured I give it a try again. Had my new net and some tropical fish food (which lasted me quite a long time as often as I go down) from last Dec. that I never used, so this would be the trial to see if I could open the net and find any shiners. We went to Chino Island where you caught bait. I figured looks like the same distance where you were. Here I was chumming again and again. Saw something swimming around so I told Cathy to keep throwing out. Well, that was a big thing! She didn't want to get it in her nails. She finally gave in. Here I am; I threw the net. Looked like a good opening! Something was in it. I pulled it up and no shiners. We did get a alot of pinfish. Most were a inch. A couple were three. Tried again, the same thing. I was getting real perturbed! Tried again, same thing! Well, I kept the big pinfish just in case.

I finally moved. We were in about two feet of water. I went to about three or four and started to chum and low and behold, I could see the shining bait. Threw the net as Cathy chummed. Had about forty shiners. Was I happy! Tried again, the same. I figured we had enough for me. Went out to Stickbeach. We got there about nine. We had a late start. I like getting there early like you do. I had a good time. I caught six snook. They were undersized, so they went back. Lost probably about ten. It was slow, not like Monday. It took some time too get them to eat but it was fun. I tried the same thing the next Sunday. My sister came with us. I told her you will not believe it. Same thing! It was late and alot of boats because of Labor Day weekend. I had a fish on, gave it to her cause she never caught one. She could not beleive in the fight. She got it to the boat and it released herself. We only caught six again. Lost about the same, but we stayed there till about one. It was real slow.

I just want to say thanks. Hopefully, we can get down there sometime before winter.

Take care,

Mike and Cathy
